Identification
Adults can reach 20 cm in length for 72.5 g. Female brown. Male has Black tail and flight feathers. Rest of plumage is bright turquoise blue with black streaks and mottling on nape, head, wings and back. Throat dark pink-violet.

Range and habitat
South America, east to the Andes, from Colombia to Venezuela, Guianas and Brazil, south to Peru and Bolivia. Lives in canopy of rainforests, altitudinal range from 600 to 1300 meters.

Status : The species remains fairly common, especially in the eastern parts of its range. It can be found in several protected areas.
