Identification
Adults can reach 32 cm in length and a weight of 218 g. Female is dark brown with small crest and yellow eyes. Male has black and white wings, small black tail. Rest of plumage is bright light orange with large black-edged round crest.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America from eastern Colombia and south half of Venezuela to the Guianas and nearby north Brazil. Lives in humid forests near rocky outcrops, up to 2000 meters.

Status : The species is locally common and lives in remote or protected areas. It is often trapped for local trade and disturbance at nest site is problematic.
