Adults can grow to 35 cm in length for a weight of 345 g. Forehead and upper crown bright red, more extensive in males. Sides of head blueish. Rest of plumage green with yellow wash on cheeks and breast. Bill entirely dark horn-colored.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in Central America and is currently endemic to Mexico (Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosi and Queretaro). Introduced in southern USA Cities. Lives in evergreen gallery forests in dry lowlands, dry woodlands and forests.
IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species is classified as Restricted Range and Endangered. Its habitat has been massively reduced and trapping for the trade was expensive.
