Adults can reach up to 70 cm in body length for a weight of 14 kg. Small tail, up to 14 cm long. Very stocky body with silvery-grey fur, darkening on belly and limbs. Head is broad, white with black bands. Snout is broad and pig-like. Bigger and lighter subspecies
Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-east Asia, from eastern India to Vietnam, south to Thailand and Malaysia. Subspecies found in the eastern Himalayan regions. Lives in forests, grasslands and plantations near forests, to 3500 meters.
