Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Body length of 52.5 cm, weight of 6.6 kg. Sexually dichromatic species, males being entirely black with white cheeks and chin. Females pale to orange yellow with long black crest, black face with white hair edges.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-East Asia , from south China to north Laos and north-east Vietnam. Lives in primary and secondary tropical forests, from 700 m to 1650 m.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species is legally protected and occurs in scattered protected areas. Still locally declining because of intensive deforestation in its range.
