Identification
Adults can grow to a total length of 38 cm with a body length of 10 cm. Males can display very bright coloration with dark blue-black body and bright red head with red and white bands on upper back. Females usually much duller beige brown.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in Yunnan (south China and north Thailand). The species also occurs in central, south Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia. Lives in all kinds of forests, from dry to evergreen wet forests.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is still common although deforestation is known to occur extensively within its range. Monitoring is needed.
