The species grows to slightly less than 1 m in length, tail included. Males have a sailfin-like spiny dorsal crest and violet-blue markings on lips and head. Coloration is dark brown or olive green with clear marbling, less visible with age.
Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Philippines, being found on Luzon, Polillo, Mindoro, Negros, Dinagat, Panay, Mindanao, Bohol, Cebu and Sibuyan. Lives in forests and woodlands, almost always near water.
