Identification
The species grows to 48 cm in length. Large males are easily recognized with their enlarged casque. Dorsal crest composed of enlarged conical tubercles. Coloration usually clear green with yellow and white to orange bands.

Range and habitat
The species only occurs in western Asia, in Yemen and the adjacent south-west of Saudi Arabia. This subspecies is endemic to Yemen. Lives in Acacia woodlands with lots of trees, between 500 and 850 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species may be threatened by political unrest in its small range. It has been overcollected but captive breeding now outweighs this trend.
