The species can reach a maximum length of 112 cm for a weight of 35 kg. Round head, rounded back. Coloration is silvery grey when young, becoming dull grey when adult. Belly is dark creamish-yellow Very small mouth.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in North America, from the Great Lakes and Hudson River to Mississippi river and Gulf of Mexico to Rio Grande. Lives in pools, lakes and deeper waters of large rivers.

Status : The species has a large range and seems to be common to abundant in most areas. It doesn’t face any important threat.
