The species reaches around 120 cm in length but is usually smaller. Eel-like body with very small fins except dorsal fins. Large head with big eyes, large mouth with big canine teeth. Head has small ridges all around. Coloration dark grey.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Arctic Ocean and northern Pacific from Hokkaido (Japan) and the Sea of Okhostk to the Canadian Arctic. Lives in rocky bottoms, sometimes close to shore, from 5 to 100m.

Status : The species hasn’t been listed by IUCN so far. It may be occasionally caught but seems to remain common. Ocean warming is a problem.
