Identification
The species can reach 57 cm in length for a weight of 1.2 kg. unmistakable species. Yellow and blue skin around eyes. Thick red bill, red legs. Plumage entirely brown being darker and vermiculated on head and tail. Black crest.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, in the upper Amazon river basin, from south Colombia and Venezuela to north-east Peru, east to north-central Brazil. Lives in dense humid or flooded forests, near rivers and ridges, to 1100 m.

Status : The species has been little studied and its secretive habits help it stay relatively safe. Most of its range hasn’t been deforested yet.
