Identification
Adults can reach a length of 17 cm for a weight of 72 g. Round-bodied bird with a tuft of feathers above short bill. Males are bright emerald green with black ear-patch and black bands on wings. Females are duller green with yellowish belly.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from southern Myanmar and Thailand to South Malaysia. The species is also found on Sumatra, Borneo and nearby smaller islands. Lives in rainforests and mixed forests, rarely plantations, up to 1700 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED

Status : The species remains locally common when suitable habitat remains. Local declines with slow recovery experienced especially in logged areas.
