Adults can reach a length of 43 cm for a weight of 500 g. Nape, back and wings dark green with flight feathers and tail dark blue. Rest of plumage is dark grey except from a white area on bend of wings and near bill. Large white eye-ring.
Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Indonesia and occurs in the north, western and south-western islands of the Moluccas archipelago. Lives in lowland primary forests, wooded plantations and woodlands, up to 1400 m.

Status : The species has a fairly small range but is known to be common on most islands where it occurs, especially on Buru which is the species’ stronghold.
