Identification
The smallest species of its genus, reaching a total length of 15 cm. Unmistakable. Triangular head with big eyes. Coloration is black with numerous creamy-yellow spots on head, body and flanks. Red is sometimes present too.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Iran and only occurs in four streams of the southern Zagros mountains of Loristan province. Lives in streams in open patches of woodlands with rocky outcrops, to 2000 m.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species has dramatically declined because of overcollection for the pet trade and decrease in habitat quality. Less than 1000 individuals remain.
