Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 25 cm. Most body is dark brownish to black. Tail entirely bright yellow. Face bluish-gray with a white crown and yellow spots all around face. Pelvic fins yellow.

Range and habitat
The species only occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, around Queensland (north-east Australia), south to New South Wales and Lord Howe Island. Lives in coastal reefs with rich coral growth, from 10 to 50 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a fairly small range but remains common where habitat is suitable. Not so impacted by collection for aquarium trade.
