Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Maximum length is 20 cm. Distinctive species bright yellow body. Black area going from back to tail peduncle. Head white with large black area on forehead and black spot on mouth. Lips are white. Black spot on eyes.

Range and habitat
Eastern Pacific from Gulf of California and Cortez Sea to Panama. Also occurs around Cocos, Malpelo and Galapagos Islands. Lives around coral reefs and over rocky areas at depths between 6 and 12 meters, sometimes down to 40 meters.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is common in the wild and occurs in many protected areas. Capture of wild specimens for aquarium trade isn’t considered a threat.
