Notes : No subspecies known.
Adults can grow to about 10 cm in length. Large dark red eye with two vertical white bands. Body entirely red, slightly transparent, with faint dark red lateral line in the middle of flanks. Body is deeper, than related species, up to 3 cm.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from east Africa (but not Red Sea) to south Japan, Philippines, Indonesia and North Australia. Lives in inshore reefs, lagoons and seaward reefs, from 18 to 55 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range and its habitat isn’t threatened for the time. Rarely collected for the trade.
