Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 12 cm. Body coloration is almost entirely dark brown to black. Large vertical white spot found behind eyes. Tail peduncle and fin are yellow to white.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the south-western Pacific Ocean and can only be found around Lord Howe Island. Lives in lagoons and rocky reefs at depths down to 45 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Not Listed
Status : This species has a very small range but is fairly common. The whole reef area around Lord Howe Island is strictly protected.
