Notes : No subspecies known.
Large anthias species with high profile, reaching 20 cm in length. Females are orange with a double red longitudinal stripe on lower flanks. Males are bright orange with square pink spot on flanks and double pink stripe on lower flanks.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in western Pacific Ocean, from Indonesia to Samoa, north to South Japan, south to New Caledonia. Lives in coral reefs, above edges of steep drop-offs, down to 25 meters.

Status : The species has a large range and is at least locally common. In parts of its range, collection for the trade and coral reef destructions are worrying.
