Identification
Small wrasse with elongated body, reaching 12 cm in length. Head olive-green with wavy blue bands extending to most flanks. Upper flanks become pink to orange. Fins are pink-red with blue lines and spots. Elongated pelvic fins.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the western and central Pacific Ocean, from New Caledonia to Loyalty Islands and Great Barrier Reef. Lives in clear outer reef slopes, down to depths of 55 meters.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is often caught for the aquarium trade but remains common in the wild. Most of its range lies in protected areas.
