Identification
Maximum length is 50 cm. Oval-shaped box-like body with small horns above the eyes and below the anal fins. Coloration is brownish to purplish-blue with dark hexagonal spots on flanks, looking like honeycomb.

Range and habitat
Western Atlantic ocean from the coasts of New Jersey to Gulf of Mexico and south to Brazil. Lives in clear water areas around coral reefs, sometimes down to 80 meters deep.

Status : This species has a very large range. It is at least locally common and isn’t known to face any threats at this time.
