Identification
Body length of 70 cm, weight of 25 g. Dorsal fur color varies from nearly blackish-brown to bright orange. Nape hairs have three bands that do not contrast sharply. Wing membranes dark brown to black and attached to ankles. Rostrum elongated.

Range and habitat
This species has a wide range, going from south Mexico to Panama and from Colombia to Bolivia, east to Brazil and south to Paraguay. Lives in deciduous and evergreen forests, often near stagnant water.

Status : The species is common and widespread with a huge range. It’s often the commonest bat species at low flight levels.
