Identification
Body length of 37 cm, tail length of 21 cm, weight of 1 kg. Elongated nose, small round ears, fairly powerful short limbs with long claws. Shaggy dark brown fur becoming lighter around face. Bushy tail.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in in extreme west Africa, in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast and Ghana. Lives in rainforests with dense undergrowth, logged forests, plantations, to 1500 m.

CITES : Not listed
Status : This species is very poorly known but is thought to remain at least locally common within its range. Unfortunately, it is heavily hunted.
