Adults reach a length of 72 cm for a weight up to 9 kg. Very strong hook-like claws. Long and shaggy fur, usually brown to gray in color, sometimes greenish because of algae, lighter coloration around the face. Face itself is brownish.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in Central America, from Nicaragua to north-west Colombia. Species also found in Venezuela, and from Colombia to Peru and Bolivia. Lives in lowland and montane tropical humid and deciduous forests, up to 3300 m.

Status : This species has a very large range and seems to remain fairly common to very common throughout. It occurs in many protected areas.
