Identification
Body length of 34 cm, tail length of 42 cm for a weight up to 794 g. Fur is mostly gray with dark areas on hands and flanks. Tail brown and black. Neck and belly rufous-orange. White face with black markings.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in a small forest area of western Brazil and north-east Peru, from Rio Javari to Rio Huallaga. Found in lowland tropical forests, including swamp forests.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species has a small range but remains fairly safe so far. It is still illegally captured and exported, especially for medical research.
