Identification
Body length of 205 cm, shoulder height of 130 cm, weight up to 350 kg. Males display impressive antlers and are bigger than females. Fur is uniformly reddish brown with lighter orange area on rump. Small mane around neck.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in Scandinavia. Species also found in most of Europe, western and central Asia, also in Atlas mountains and Corsica. Highly adaptable, occurs in woodlands, grasslands, scrubland up to 2800 m.

CITES : Not listed
Status : This species has a very wide range and some populations are increasing. Other isolated populations are highly endangered because of habitat loss.
