Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Body length of 55 cm and weight up to 7.5 kilos for male, less for females. Prominent dewlap and dorsal crest. Dark grey to greenish-gray with chevron-like markings on flanks. Adult males display turquoise on dorsal spines and legs.

Range and habitat
Endemic to Anegada Island in UK Virgin Islands. Introduced on Guana Island. Occurs in dry forests and woodlands with many caves and burrows.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : Extinct on much of its former range. Highly endangered because of competition with livestock, predation by feral animals, destruction of habitat. Introduction and conservation programs on Anegada and nearby Guana island.
