Identification
Medium-sized species reaching a length of 30 cm (40 cm is a maximum). Fairly big head, relatively small legs. Coloration dark grey with orange spots on back. Lower flanks and belly white. Bright orange line from lips to tail.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from Algeria to Egypt, the species is also found from Turkey to Uzbekistan, south to Pakistan. Lives in arid to desertic areas with substrate in which it can dig burrows.

Status : The species has a very large range and seems to remain common in suitable habitat.
