Notes : 5 other subspecies known.
Females can reach about 1 m in length. Most subspecies have a bright red coloration. This subspecies has thin transversal black bars when adult. Youngs have broad yellow bands between the black bars.
Range and habitat
This subspecies is endemic to Cameron Highlands in western Malaysia. The species can be found from eastern India to China, south to Vietnam and Thailand. Mostly found in humid montane forests where the floor is covered with moss and leaves. Some specimens can occur above 2000 meters.

Status : So far, the species doesn’t face any threats because it lives in remote places. Some populations in Thailand and Malaysia have a very small range.
