Identification
The species can grow to 4.2 cm. Round head, short body, getting thinner towards tail. All fins except caudal are mostly black. Whitish face, body bright yellow to orange with four broad vertical black bars, second one being the widest.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-East Asia, from south China to most of mainland South-East Asia and north Borneo. Lives in lowland and coastal streams, mangroves, estuaries and brackish waters.

Status : The species remains common in the wild and seems not to currently suffer from habitat loss or overcollection for the trade.
