Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Black body and fins with two dark to light blue horizontal band from head to mid flanks. Rear part of body yellow to whitish with dark edges. Clear blue tail with black circle marking. Long snout.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific, from east Africa to Line, Marquesas and Society islands, to south Japan and Lord Howe Island. Found around lagoons and seaward reefs, mostly around corals.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a huge range and can be locally common. It is collected for the trade and the impacts of such practices are not yet fully known. Habitat loss also needs to be studied.
