Identification
Slender-bodied civet reaching 56 cm in body length, tail length of 37 cm and weight to 3 kg. Ground coloration beige-grey with conspicuous dark brown saddle-like markings on back. Head clear with three vertical stripes on forehead.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South East Asia, from South Thailand to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and islands of Sipora, Pagai and Siberut. Subspecies found in mainland southeast Asia and Sumatra. Lives in primary and secondary rainforests up to 1200 meters.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species has a relatively large range and can tolerate slight habitat modifications. It is probably still declining because of extensive loss of habitat.
