Identification
65 cm body length (tail is 70 cm), weight up to 11 kg. Grey fur with rufous legs and tail (tail has black transversal bands). White stripe on cheeks, black and white areas behind forelimbs. Black line on back.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is found in isolated montane ranges in South Australia and western New South Wales. The species also occurs in South-West Queensland. Lives in cliffs, gorges, rocky outcrops, boulder piles and rocky slopes around grassland, shrubland, woodland and open forest.

Status : This species has a restricted and highly fragmented range. All populations are in steady decline. The species numbers less than 10 000 individuals.
