Identification
Adults can reach a wingspan of 7 cm. Body hairy and dark brown with cream belly and lower face. Pointy snout. Upperside bright orange with black edges and yellow blotches. Underside dark grey brown with eye-spots and white blotches.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from Southern China to Malaysia. Species found from India to South-east Asia, south to Indonesia, Solomon islands and north Australia. Lives in forests, sometimes urban parks, plantations and swamps.

CITES : Not listed
Status : This species’ status has yet to be assessed by IUCN. It seems to be widespread and locally common. Some subspecies are probably endangered.
