Identification
The species grows to 125 cm long for a weight of 2 kg.. Female brown with vermiculated belly. Both sexes with red wattle on face. Male has black crest and belly, long white tail and back. Subspecies with long tail and little black vermiculation.

Range and habitat
Species found in Southeast Asia, from Myanmar to south Vietnam et central China. Subspecies occurs in south China and northeast Vietnam. Lives in a wide variety of primary and secondary forests, up to 1000 m.

Status : The species is locally very common and occurs in many protected areas. Some isolated subspecies are declining.
