Iconic species from expeditions

A curated selection of species observed during field expeditions across the world, offering a direct perspective on biodiversity as encountered in natural environments, with a focus on its conservation.

With my project Pierre Wildlife, I have photographed more than 16,000 animal species and subspecies, both under human care and in the wild. In this website, I have gathered data and photos from my field work as well as education resources for many animal species to raise awareness about the need to protect them.

This section exists to highlight field observations that, due to their ecological interest, rarity, or context, deserve to be presented independently from the main educational database. It isn’t meant to be an exhaustive inventory.

Each entry specifies the context of observation, whether in natural environments or in a zoological institution, when the latter provides educational or conservation value.

I have broken down this section into several topics, allowing for easier browsing.

Field expeditions in Southeast Asia :

Endemic species of Mindanao region
A selection of endemic species observed in the Mindanao region, highlighting its unique biodiversity and levels of endemism.

Mt Kinabalu : wildlife in a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Wildlife observed on Mount Kinabalu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its exceptional biodiversity.

Wildlife of Borneo : observations from the different bird hides in Sabah
Wildlife documented from bird hides in Sabah, offering close observations of species in their natural environment.

Biogeography :

Island life
Species and subspecies endemic to small or isolated islands from Southeast Asia to the Pacific Ocean, highlighting the importance of habitat conservation.

Zoology :

Primates of Southeast Asia
A selection of primate species from Southeast Asia, including langurs, macaques and orangutans, many of which remain poorly known and threatened.

Conservation under human care :

Zoological institutions and conservation efforts
A selection of species and conservation stories from zoological institutions contributing to the preservation of biodiversity.

These pages do not aim to provide an exhaustive treatment of each species, but to document meaningful field observations in their real context. For a more comprehensive and educational approach, detailed species pages are also available in the website’s Education Resources.

Let’s go in the field together and enjoy !
