Identification
Total length of 50 cm including a 33 cm long graduated tail for a weight of 133 g. Black head with short bill and yellow-white eyes. Rest of plumage dark metallic blue, violet on lower belly and tail, with iridescent dark green wings.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in north-central Africa, from south Mauritania and Senegal to Sudan. Isolated population in south Central African Republic. Lives in savanna woodland, farmland, cultivated areas and suburban parks.

Status : The species seems to be fairly common to common. It can used habitats modified by men as long as breeding sites and food resources remain.
