Identification
The species grows to 26 cm in length. Ovoid body shape, laterally compressed body, steep forehead, large belly with a conspicuous groove where its long black pelvic fins will fit. Coloration silvery with slight yellow tinge on fins.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from the Persian gulf east to Malaysia, north to south Japan and Taiwan, then to Philippines. Lives in coastal shallow waters, maximum depth unknown.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range and can be locally abundant. It is occasionally caught by fisheries but this doesn’t seem to be a threat for now.
