Identification
Adults can grow to about 30 cm in length. Elongated and laterally compressed body. Prominent lateral line with vertical bands surrounding it. Body silvery with a blue sheen. Dorsal and anal fins tinged yellow, caudal fin bright yellow.

Range and habitat
This species in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and east Africa to Hawaii, north to Japan, south to Australia and the Arafura Sea. Lives in mangroves and coastal bays, to 80 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a huge range and remains mostly common despite being locally overexploited by fisheries. No declines noted so far.
