Identification
Up to 225 cm body length, shoulder height of 160 cm, weight up to 800 kg. Curved horns, small back hump. Female is beige-brown. Both sexes show white legs and rump. Males of this subspecies are brown with blackish back and neck.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is endemic to Borneo. The species also occurs on Java and from Myanmar to south Vietnam (scattered populations). Lives in open dry forests, dry and humid grasslands, in lowlands up to 2100 m.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species only occurs in small isolated populations. Mainland asian subspecies is critically endangered. Occurs mostly in protected areas now.
