Identification
The species can reach a maximum length of 1.60 m. Very slender body, elongated head and big round eyes. Coloration beige brown on back with black bands on flanks and white belly. Subspecies with two parallel black bands on neck.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs Sri Lanka and parts of South India. Species found from Pakistan to most of India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Lives in forests and woodlands, often around dense vegetation.

Status : The species has a wide range and occurs in numerous protected areas. It can adapt to changes in its habitat. Locally caught for trade and persecuted.
