Identification
Adults can grow to 95 cm in length for a weight of 3.8 kg. All black plumage with green-blue glossy aspect. White rump, bright red bill. Cylindrical blue casque on forehead. Presence of a short curly glossy crest behind casque.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America and is endemic to Bolivia, occurring in a small area on eastern slopes of Andes in the central part of the country. Lives in dense lower montane rainforest from 400 to 1300 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species used to be common but is steeply declining because of habitat loss. The species will soon be extinct in the wild if deforestation continues.
