Identification
Body length of 42 cm, tail length of 44 cm, weight of 3.5 kg. Dark pink to brownish face skin. Coat is dark brown with almost black limbs. Whitish hairs around face, shoulders and belly. Black cap on top of head (less visible in old adults).

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, in the northern parts of Venezuela east of Sierra de Perija and on Trinidad Island (possibly introduced there). Lives in lowland and submontane moist forests, gallery forest.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species used to be common in its small range but is now declining because of deforestation, conflicts with farmers (many are killed every year for raiding crops) and capture for trade. The population on Trinidad is on the verge of extinction.
