Identification
Adults can grow to a body length of 205 cm for a shoulder height of 145 cm and weight up to 250 kg. Long-headed but massive deer with small neck mane and long antlers. Coloration uniformly grey-brown, black and white rump.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in central and south-west China (Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan and Xizang). Lives in montane coniferous forests and scrublands.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : So far it seems safe and its largest populations, in China, are increasing. However, given its patchy distribution, the species populations should be monitored.
