Identification
Adults can grow to 34 cm in length for a weight of 615 g. Unmistakable with its bright blue and violet-blue cheeks, orange and yellow forehead, yellow-green cap. Rest of plumage green with yellow tinge on belly. Bill reddish and grey.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, from eastern Venezuela through Guyana, French Guyana, Suriname and maybe adjacent Brazil. Lives in cooler subtropical forests and deep interior of rainforests, to 1700 m.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species occurs in protected areas but is always found at low densities. Locally threatened by deforestation and hunting, mostly for food.
