Identification
Adults grow to a wingspan of about 5 cm. Wings are more angular with pointed tips. Upperside is black with three broad horizontal orange bands and one oblique band on forewing. Underside is completely different, being marbled yellow.

Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to Taiwan. Species found from east India to South China, with isolated populations in Malaysia and Sulawesi (range still discussed). Lives in subtropical and tropical hill forests, from 500 to 1500 m.

IUCN RED LIST : NOT LISTED
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species could be threatened by deforestation but some of its range lies at higher altitudes where this is less of an issue at this point.
