Identification
Large wrasse reaching 40 cm in length for a weight of 1 kg. High dorsal profile with elongated tips to fins. Coloration mostly orange yellow with a large purple-violet saddle on most of back. Large adults duller, more violet, less yellow.

Range and habitat
The species is found in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Florida and Bermuda to the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, south to south Brazil. Lives in rocky and coral reefs down to 70 meters deep.
