Identification
Small species reaching up to 11.7 cm in length from nose to tail. Coloration pale grey to beige with dark blotches along its back and flanks. Flattened body with row of spines on flanks. Crown of ten sharp pointed horns at base of head.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in North America from south Arizona and New Mexico to nearby Mexico (Sonora, north Sinaloa and Baja California). Lives in arid areas such as desert and mountain desert with sparse vegetation.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a fairly large range and is known from many populations. Local declines could be happening but they need to be quantified.
