Identification
Violet to pink head with wavy yellow lines. Upper flanks violet, lower flanks orange-pink with faint reticulation. Broad red (blue-edged) band on dorsal and tail fins. Female with no red bands.

Range and habitat
Western Pacific Ocean, from Ryukyu Islands to Philippines, Fiji, Tonga, Micronesia, Indonesia and Vanuatu. Found around deep coastal and outer reef drop-offs over sand and rubble.

Status : This species has a large range and seems safe from habitat loss since it occurs in deep waters. It remains common through its range and rarely seen in the trade.
