Identification
Body length of 290 cm, shoulder height of 176 cm, weight of 950 kg. Very long straight twisted horns. Furry dewlap under neck. Coloration is beige-brown with darker hairs on back and belly. Numerous vertical white stripes on flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs as scattered populations in western and central Africa, in South-east Senegal, north Cameroon, and in Central African Republic. Lives in broadleaf woodland savannas and forest mosaics.

CITES : Not listed
Status : This species is declining in many parts of its range because of over-hunting for food and trophies and loss of habitat. It occurs in protected areas.
